Zoely tablets are hormonal contraceptive pills that combine two active ingredients, estradiol, which is a form of estrogen found in the body, and nomegestrol, a synthetic form of progesterone. The daily dose of hormone provided by the Zoely pill works mainly by making the body believe that ovulation has already occurred. This prevents the ripening and the subsequent release of an egg from the ovaries each month. You can also buy Zoely on a subscription-basis with UK Meds, saving you time and money!

Zoely Contraceptive Pill

Zoely tablets are hormonal contraceptive pills that combine two active ingredients, estradiol, which is a form of estrogen found in the body, and nomegestrol, a synthetic form of progesterone.

Zoely is used to prevent pregnancy, and address problems of heavy, painful or irregular periods.

For more information on the prescription medication patients should refer to the Zoely patient information leaflet.

Zoely contains two active ingredients, estradiol and nomegestrol. Combined contraceptives like Zoely work by over-riding the normal menstrual cycle. During a woman’s menstrual cycle, the levels of sex hormone change throughout each month. The hormones cause the ovaries to release an egg during the process of ovulation and prepare the lining of the womb for the possibility of a pregnancy. At the end of each menstrual cycle, the levels of the hormones fall if the egg has not been fertilized, resulting in the shedding of the womb lining as a monthly menstrual period.

The daily dose of hormone provided by the Zoely pill works mainly by making the body believe that ovulation has already occurred. This prevents the ripening and the subsequent release of an egg from the ovaries each month.

The hormones in Zoely pills also thicken the natural mucus at the neck of the womb to make it difficult for sperm to pass from the vagina canal into the womb and reach an egg to be fertilized. The hormones also change the quality of the womb lining, making it less conducive for the implantation of a fertilized egg.

Zoely effectively prevents pregnancy from occurring through the following:

  • Tricked into believing that ovulation has occurred, the ovaries will no longer release an egg that could be fertilized by the sperm.
  • Making it difficult for the sperm to enter the uterus because of the thickened mucus at the neck of the uterus.
  • Making the lining of the womb not conducive to the attachment of a fertilized egg.

Zoely Pill

Zoely is an everyday pill. You need to hake one tablet every day. The tablets come in strips of 28 tablets, with 24 small white active tablets and 4 small yellow inactive tablets.

Zoely tablets must be taken in the order that is specified on the pack, beginning with tablet marked one. The tablets also come with self-adhesive strips, each starting with a different day of the week. These are intended to show you on which day to take each tablet. Peel off a strip that starts with your starting day, example Friday. Use the strip that starts with “Fri.” Stick it along the top of the strip of tablets, so that the first day is above the pill marked ‘start. You can now easily see on which day you have to take each tablet.

The last four inactive tablets are to get you used to taking a pill at the time every day and just take each packet back to back. This differs from other contraceptive pills where you take the active pills for 21 days, followed a week of pill-free days.

You are still protected from pregnancy while taking the inactive pills, provided you take the active pills correctly. Taking each at the same time each day will help you to remember to take your dose. Zoely tablets could be taken with or without food.

You should start taking the pill on the first day of your menstrual cycle in order for the medication to protect you against pregnancy immediately. You don’t have to use any other method of contraception while you are taking Zoely. If you have a very short menstrual cycle, you will not be protected from pregnancy if you will start taking the pills on the fifth day of your period.

You can start taking this pill at any time during your cycle if the doctor is convinced that you are not pregnant. Starting the pill at any other time in your cycle will not protect you from pregnancy. You might need to use other forms of contraception, such as the condom for the first seven days of taking the pill.

If you have just given birth and you are not breastfeeding, you can start taking the pill on the 21st day after giving birth. Use extra contraception such as a condom for the first seven days.

Starting to take the pill immediately after a miscarriage or abortion at under 24 weeks will immediately provide you with protection against pregnancy. If you start taking the pill more than seven days after a miscarriage or abortion, you should use extra contraception for the seven days of taking the pills.

If you forget to take a pill or start the pack of pills one day later, take the missed pill as soon as you remember even if you have to take two pills at the same time. Then continue taking the rest of the pack as scheduled. You are still protected from pregnancy and you don’t have to use extra contraception.

If you forget to take two pills or you start the new pack two or more days late, you will not be protected against pregnancy. Take the last pill that you missed together with the pill for the day, which means that you have to take two pills. Forget about the other pill that you missed. Then continue taking the rest of the Zoely pills in the pack as scheduled. You should not have sex or use an extra barrier method of contraception such as condoms.

If you have less than seven pills remaining in the Zoely pack after your last missed pill, finish the pack and start a new pack straight away without taking the four inactive pills.

If you vomit within two hours of taking a pill, the medicine may not be fully absorbed into the bloodstream. Take another pill as soon as you feel better and take the next pill at your usual time. You will still be protected against pregnancy.

Zoely will not protect you against sexually transmitted infections. You need to use condoms for protection against sexually transmitted infections.

Women who are using Zoely for the first time may experience irregularity in menstruation such as spotting, breakthrough bleeding or missed period. Consult your doctor if you experience persistent bleeding. If you don’t bleed for two consecutive months, use a test to make sure that you are not pregnant before you start the next month’s contraceptive cycle.
